Resident Selection Criteria

PAL Vancouver is currently accepting applications for the waiting list for one-bedroom units in the PAL Lodge at Georgia and Cardero.

Low income household (annual income below $35,000) – eligible for subsidized unit, rent based on household income.

Moderate income household (annual income above $35,000) – eligible for near market units, rents will be 10% below market for that area. Currently the rent for these suites has been set at $1,080 per month, not including parking.

In order to fulfill PAL Vancouver’s charitable purpose, residents of the Performing Arts Lodge Vancouver will be individuals with a low to moderate income who are professionals in the performing arts industry and capable of independent living.

PRIMARY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT:

  1. Must have worked or currently be working in the professional performing arts industry, in British Columbia or Canada

OTHER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Household size must be either one or two persons at least one of whom meets the primary eligibility requirement, and if two persons they must be an adult couple.
  2. All residents must be capable of independent living.
  3. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial responsibility (i.e. past record of paying rent on time).
  4. Applicant’s household must have a low to moderate income. The income requirements will be set by the Society as needed and will vary depending upon subsidy funds available.

HOUSING PRIORITIES:

Priority will be given to seniors (55 plus), the disabled and those with the greatest housing need who also meet the primary eligibility requirement.

As much as is possible the Resident Selection Committee will strive for a balance of representation from all disciplines (film, theatre, dance, music etc) and professions (performance, design, technical, administration etc).

PERFORMING ARTS INDUSTRY DEFINITIONS

In determining if applicants fulfill the primary eligibility requirement, the Resident Selection Committee will use the following definitions:

  1. the applicant has or has had membership in a professional association appropriate to one’s activity in the performing arts industry whose membership or categories of membership are limited under standards established by the association; or which is a trade union or its equivalent appropriate to one’s technical skills or artistic ability (a “professional organization in British Columbia or Canada”);
  2. the applicant has worked or is working within a corporation, association, guild or union associated with the professional performing arts industry, which includes writing, production, promoting, administering, educating and/or representing performing artists (an "associated organization in British Columbia or Canada");
  3. the applicant has spent a substantial portion of their working life in the professional performing arts, and has received compensation for that work, in British Columbia or Canada.
